Field Notes: art or hiding?

I am learning what this dream is going to require of me, including when to keep refining the work and when to allow it to be seen.

I spent more than a decade working in documentary television and media, so I know creative work can always evolve. There is always another image to strengthen, another sentence to rewrite, or another detail to refine.

Building Autre & Part feels creative in that same way because we are thinking about more than beautiful places. We are thinking about how a villa might deepen rest, expand imagination, and create more meaningful time with the people we love.

I am learning that I cannot protect the work forever. At some point, I have to release it, let people experience it, and listen to what it becomes beyond me.

My instinct to keep refining can come from care, but sometimes it comes from fear.

Having our two daughters made the dream bigger. I want them to see that they can dream boldly and build lives shaped around what matters most to them.

For me, that has always been quality time and the memories we create with the people we love. Losing people who mattered deeply to our family made that even clearer.

Kimani is building this beside me while working full-time, often staying up late to develop the platform as we raise two little girls who still wake through the night. There is a great deal of love and sacrifice behind what we are creating.

I am learning to share the work, spread the word, and allow myself to be proud while it continues to evolve.

At some point, we had to be brave enough to step back and let the work breathe.
