The Big Birthday. Do Something Worth Remembering.
The best milestone birthdays are not really about the birthday but about gathering the people you love and creating memories that become traditions.
There comes a point when another dinner reservation doesn't feel like enough.
Not enough time. Not enough people. Not enough of the kind of night that stretches on because nobody wants it to end.
Kimani and I met at a mutual friend's birthday. A villa week in Jamaica. Somewhere under the stars that trip, we both knew there was something worth exploring.
That's the thing about these places. The backdrop does something to you. A beachfront view, the stillness of a countryside at golden hour, a terrace that makes an ordinary conversation feel cinematic.
You start to romanticize your life.
And honestly, you should.
That's why we believe in the milestone birthday trip.
How to Make It Unforgettable
The right villa does a lot of the heavy lifting.
At Autre & Part, things like daily housekeeping, private chef, local recommendations, and support throughout your stay are the baseline. The goal is simple: spend less time managing logistics and more time enjoying the people you came to celebrate.
What follows are a few things we've learned about planning a milestone trip people will still be talking about years from now.
01 — Book a luxury villa, not a hotel
Everyone stays together. No coordinating rooms, no losing people at the end of the night. The trip starts the moment everyone arrives, and that togetherness is the whole point.
02 — Choose a villa with hospitality built in
A private chef, a house manager, someone who knows the area and can make things happen. The less you have to manage, the more present everyone gets to be.
03 — Stay at least five nights
Three nights always sounds like enough and it rarely is. Five gives the trip room to actually breathe. The first day is arrival, the second people are still decompressing, and by the third everyone is finally exhaling.
04 — Plan one or two anchor moments and leave the rest open
Lean on your staff for the gems only locals know, or ask them to design something just for the guest of honor. The unplanned moments are almost always the ones people bring up years later.
05 — Choose a villa that elevates the experience
Some places stay with you. Not because they're the biggest or most expensive, but because the design, the setting, and the hospitality all work together to make gathering feel easy. The place shapes the trip in ways you never could have planned yourself.
The Real Gift
The best milestone trips have a funny way of becoming something bigger.
A birthday becomes a tradition. Friends become chosen family. A place you had never heard of becomes one you'll talk about for years.
Maybe that's why we love them so much.
They remind us that life is meant to be lived now, not someday. That gathering is worth prioritizing. That a beautiful place can change the way we see the people around us—and sometimes even ourselves.
The birthday is just the reason to book the trip.
What comes after is the part you'll remember.
